André Chatelin is a restaurant owner in the Paris section of Les Halles. Catherine is the daughter of his ex-wife Gabrielle, who he hasn't seen in twenty years and who he thinks is dead. Gérard is a student who works nights to pay his way through college and he falls for Catherine. But she resists his advances and lets Chatelin marry her. In reality, this is all a scheme by Gabrielle, who is very much alive and after Chatelin's money. (oficjalny tekst dystrybutora)
