Pod urokliwymi, brukowanymi uliczkami Serbridge mieszkają Pudłaki, psotne istoty, które nocami myszkują po mieście i kradną dzieci! A przynajmniej tak mówi legenda, w którą ludzie od zawsze wierzyli. Prawda jest taka, że Pudłaki to grupa sympatycznych trolli, którzy wychowują porzuconego przez wszystkich chłopczyka o imieniu Eggs. Kiedy nikczemny Archibald Snatcher wyznacza sobie za cel likwidację Pudłaków, w obliczu zagrożenia Eggs musi przenieść się na powierzchnię, gdzie sprzymierza się z żądną przygód dziewczynką, aby razem z nią uratować Pudłaki i odmienić Serbridge. The first minute of animation didn't really captivate me; after all, stop-motion puppet animation isn't something that's very common nowadays. I am all the more glad for it. Especially when it's in a good story. This one is terrific, imaginative, self-sufficient, and meaningful. It has emotions, great characters, and a packed storyline. I was captivated and thoroughly enjoyed the film.

The Boxtrolls reminded me of Tim Burton's stop-motion animated films or Coraline in its appeal, but compared to them, it loses in the story and, in fact, the visuals. The main villain really had charisma and I found the Boxtrolls likeable, but I was also a bit annoyed by the little girl with her father and the members of the cheese club. All in all, a mediocre film that impresses mostly by the way it looks, but doesn't leave much more in the viewer's mind (at least in mine).
