A life-size Air Doll lives In a shabby apartment In Tokyo. She cannot speak, nor can she move. But she is the only companion her mIddleaged master has. He talks to her, puts her in a bath and makes love with her every day after he returns from work. This routine life Is dIsrupted when fantasy turns into really. The Air Doll suddenly comes to life, filled with a soul. When the Air Doll wanders into a video store1 her world Is forever changed. She meets Junichi, the clerk, and immediately fafls in love with him. The Air DoN begins working in the store and everyday, she and Junichi become closer, they go to the movie and explore the city together... First meeting with the director and right away a quite unorthodox story of an inflatable doll, who is tired of being destined for one single purpose, so she comes to life and begins to express emotions. In the main role, Du-na Bue delivered a wonderful performance and turned the film into a beautiful poetic affair. In how many films can you say that an inflatable doll in the main role seeks emotions and the audience, on the contrary, has to make an effort to control them. Very nice, it is evident that Hirokazu Kore´eda is a top filmmaker, because poetry and realism come naturally to him, just like it was with our Menzel.
