angielski *Spoiler alert* A young guy experiences his first unrequited love. He has spent his whole life trying to overcome the resulting pain by banging hundreds of women, only to be finally able to bang that first one in old age, and say: “I’ve been waiting for this my whole life.” With a romantic shot of a parting steamboat on a river, the 140-minute film is over. And I find myself asking: "What the hell did I just watch?" ()

angielski I can't help but feel that if the source material is so highly regarded - I haven't read it - somehow that grandeur was lost in the adaptation. One senses the themes, especially the theme of love and what love actually is, but it's presented in such a mundane way that it doesn't captivate the viewer. Perhaps only by the naturalness with which individual scenes are depicted here. But you don't feel strong love or passion either. In its portrayal of love and emotion, the film is actually quite sterile. Sometimes a classic should remain a classic in book form. ()
