(Monolith)

angielski The traditionally-connected tale of a headstrong cop, a mysterious woman, and an evil corporation holds the audience’s interest through a brisk narrative and superb creative design that nods to the bygone days of noir. The predictability of the plot (though the last shot is relatively unexpected) and the schematic characters (though very likable thanks to the voices) deter from it receiving highest rating. Overall, though, it’s a very immersive atmospheric affair. 4 ½. ()

angielski Gritty and suspenseful sci-fi with a noir vibe, proving that animated films don't need to have singing animals to be worth something. A thrilling film in which the visuals don't play the most important role, unlike Sin City. ()

angielski Brilliant animation that left me amazed the entire time, and amazing action scenes that I could easily watch over and over again. On the other hand, the story is at the level of a short story by a beginning writer, filled with characters the viewer never gets a chance to develop any kind of relationship with. ()

angielski If there is currently a film that perfectly works with comic book aesthetics and can also place it in an actual film script, then it is this neo-noir futuristic detective story. The black-and-white execution is based on both black-and-white comics created by pen drawing and American retouching, and it also builds on the classic black-and-white noir film. It is true that the story is not that original, but still beats most comic book adaptations with absolute ease. Comic book feature films usually offer a few stars in the main roles and above all a generous budget. Renaissance is an audiovisual gem where we can enjoy the play of shadows, various visual details, and real characters. In addition, the ending is quite surprising, and good or evil are not clearly identifiable in advance, and they also overlap in the characters - which is a sign of a good story and a really good comic book. The only thing this has in common with Sin City is that it's based on a comic book. As a film, Renaissance overwhelmingly beats Sin City. Overall impression: 90%. ()

angielski Spectacular direction and brilliant animation, with its feet kicked out from under by an incredibly stupid and cliched script. However, the film is definitely worth seeing for the two facts mentioned above. ()

angielski At first glance, it's clear that this is mainly a film about its visual aspects. That's quite interesting, and comparing it to Sin City is somewhat apt, although more in terms of the atmosphere of the story. The animation is somewhat closer to Alois Nebel after all. The film can be considered a modern noir film, in this case even sci-fi noir, where the protagonist isn't necessarily strong or charismatic, but rather one who makes mistakes. However, it still pits the femme fatale against a story that seems quite complicated. Or at least one where tough decisions need to be made. Visually intriguing, less so in terms of plot. Still, it’s a vision of the future worth reflecting on. ()
