What does it mean to be a man today? This is the simple yet infinitely complex question filmmaker Céline Pernet poses to a group of 30 men aged 30–45 in this candid and surprisingly funny documentary. As the men discuss sex, love, cohabitation, friendship, fatherhood, work and the patriarchy, we are treated to a specter of different perspectives, experiences and philosophies. And while Garçonnières fails to come up with definitive answers to its questions, it succeeds in provoking plenty of laughs, thoughts and discussions. (Bergen International Film Festival)
